Review from the Founder
"We needed a new logo for our powerlifting competition, and Gary not only created one for us but, during the process, helped us to rethink and level up our whole brand strategy. He put a 110% effort to serve us the best way possible, and overdelivered with all the marketing materials he made. If you need anything brand related to your fitness business, I can't emphasise how much I recommend working with him!"

PWB Kupa
PWB Kupa
One of the founders, Zsolt Wittmann, reached out to us to refresh their 10-year-old powerlifting meet brand. Zsolt desired a modern, inspiring, and renewed brand that resonates better with its audience and has a captivating social media presence.
PWB Kupa is the most incredible competition in Hungary. It features speakers, streams, lights, and strong competitors—it has the country's biggest talent search category. So, the new brand identity had to differ from that of other federations in Hungary. We aimed to create a unique brand that reflects the passion and victory of young competitors.

With our initial questions and calls, we discovered that Zsolt's target audience is beginner lifters who want to try out how to compete in a real powerlifting meet instead of just maxing out in a gym. PWB Kupa is the coolest competition ever in Hungary—professional stream, lights, two platforms, master of ceremonies, and strong competitors. The brand values sportsmanship, being natty/drug-free and hard work. The vision for PWB Kupa is to discover talented powerlifters by providing a good competitive experience at the beginner level.

We put together this Moodboard after we talked more deeply with Zsolt. Our goal with Zsolt was to create a modern and fresh design that would represent the brand's quality and attract younger generations. The Moodboard contains modern geometric and badge logo directions and ideas.
During our conversation, Zsolt requested a trophy icon that was both clever and neat. We also put together modern and fresh colour and typography directions. They already had yellow as their primary colour, which we intended to keep, as it's fresh and positive—perfect to attract younger generations.

We tried many ways to implement the trophy, as the brand's name is Powerbuilder Cup in English. The Cup element will perfectly match the brand, but not in a cliche way. We wanted to mix the trophy with something clever; we didn't want to make it evident and generic. Also, the cup symbolises victory, which perfectly matches the brand message.
After much trial and error, we figured the trophy cup had a gap that we could perfectly fill with a fire symbol. We made the fire and the trophy dynamic, masculine, geometric and abstract. It is a memorable mark that will serve them for decades, as it is unique and doesn't use any trends.
We aimed to make the logo icon similar in style to PowerBuilder, their leading powerlifting training system brand.

The Grid System
After creating a balanced final sketch, we determined stroke weights and angles to create a perfectly balanced and precise grid system for the logo. Finding the perfect angles, strokes, and inner space sizes was challenging. The final logo shows an incredibly dynamic vibe, which was our biggest goal, as it fits perfectly with the powerlifting sport.

Logo Variations
Logo variations were created to ensure consistency across all use cases. We are very proud of the badge variation, which looks fantastic on T-shirts, medals, and all mediums that require a circular shape. Our client absolutely loved it. The logo only uses the elements of the logo mark and stroke weight to maintain a geometric and professional feel. In the badge logo, the strokes at the bottom of the logo mark are aligned and have the same angle, so they make the logo feel balanced and pleasing to the eyes.

Brand Pattern
We have designed a dynamic and stylish brand pattern using the geometric logo mark of PWB Kupa. We vertically mirrored the logo mark and played with shapes to neatly fill in the gaps. The resulting pattern is a highly dynamic and memorable brand pattern that can be used on business cards, posters, and more.

We have chosen "Ripe Lemon" as the primary colour. It is a fresh, modern, and youthful yellow colour that is sure to leave a lasting impression. Additionally, the old PWB Kupa and PowerBuilder main brands used yellow as the main colour, so we wanted to maintain consistency. We also created "International Klein," the brand's CTA and complementary blue colour, which is similarly very fresh and modern like "Ripe Lemon".
We have also created "Concrete," a modern off-white colour ideal for text or backgrounds, with excellent contrast when combined with blue and black. Finally, "Cod Gray" is a unique, deep black colour that pairs perfectly with our yellow and white brand colours.
We selected Anton as the primary font for its bold and condensed sans-serif style, communicating power and modernity. Raleway was chosen as the secondary font for its versatility and excellent readability, and it complements Anton fantastically. Noto Sans, our supporting (body text) font, was chosen for its readability and versatility across different languages, including Hungarian.

The T-shirt Designs
Zsolt, the founder, wanted to continue the tradition of selling T-shirts to competitors, as they had done annually for the past 10 years. We introduced a fresh idea, inspired by an Ironman event, where all the competitors' names were incorporated into a unique design to form a shape. This made each T-shirt highly exclusive, offering participants the added excitement of finding their own names on the apparel. The design was a major success, leading to the sale of over 130 shirts—resulting in the highest sales in the event's decade-long history.
In addition to the competitors’ shirts, we created unique designs for the volunteers, including Staff, Referees, and the Master of Ceremonies. Our goal was to show appreciation for their dedication with distinctive, bold designs—not just the usual generic "STAFF" text in a standard font. These limited-edition shirts were a hit, and the volunteers were thrilled with them.

Making the Website
We created a customised and intuitive sitemap in Relume with the primary goal of building trust and effectively communicating PWB Kupa’s core values and competition details. Visitors can easily access information about athletes, events, and frequently asked questions, ensuring a seamless and informative experience.
For the wireframe, our focus was on featuring plenty of photos and brief, easy-to-digest content in each section. This approach not only boosts trust but also gives visitors a peek into the excitement and atmosphere of a powerlifting competition.
In terms of design, we stayed true to the established brand identity, using the same colours, fonts, and photography style that reflect the fresh, vibrant, and motivating energy of the brand. The layout was designed to be bold, visually appealing, and easy to navigate, guiding visitors smoothly through the page while improving their overall experience.
